Daily 5 - There are 5 things to Daily 5
1) Read to Self
2) Read to Someone
3) Work on Writing
4) Word Work
5) Listen to Reading
While my students are rotating between those 5 things, I am pulling my guided reading groups. I have 6 groups this year... ranging from Kindergarten - 2nd grade reading level! It is tough, but it is fun challenging each of my groups. I can truly walk away from my classroom each day, knowing that I gave each of my students what they needed individually in small group reading. It is crazy how much teaching has changed since I was in school. I wish I could have been taught under this structure - I think I would have had a better experience with reading in school. :) I was a great reader, I just didn't like it. I can only imagine what I would think about reading if my teacher had made lessons to help me with the skills I needed help on or the skills I needed to be challenged in. Kids are lucky these days!!
I have the complete Daily 5 packet and how to introduce D5 in my TPT store FOR FREE. Please check it out. I give detailed descriptions of each of the activities, what the students are doing, what the teacher is doing, how to conduct guided reading groups, and of course - a 4 week introduction of Daily 5 into the Kindergarten classroom. This can be used for other grades besides Kindergarten! Click below the picture to get the document!
I have also created a Guided Reading Interactive Notebook Bundle. It is 90 pages and JAM PACKED full of interactive notebook graphic organizers and tasks for students at your guided reading group instruction. Why create or reinvent the wheel - I have done it for you! Trust me, this packet rocks. :) Click below the picture to take you to my TPT page if you would like to preview more!
If you love Daily 5 as much as I do - be sure to check out my tab on BUILD Math. IT IS THE SAME STRUCTURE AS DAILY 5! :) You will love it. It is daily number sense building. Seriously, CHECK IT OUT!
